Experience
Visit the volcanic black-sand beach of Kusamba in East Bali to discover traditional methods of salt farming, a time-intensive technique using sun and wind evaporation that’s been preserved and passed down through generations. Watch as salt farmers gather sea water in buckets to pour over finely raked sand and begin the process of making Balinese fleur de sel (flower of salt). Afterwards, head to Tenganan village to see the traditional weaving process of making Gringsing cloth, and enjoy serene beachfront tapas prepared with freshly-harvested salt and just-picked ingredients at the Alila Manggis Seasalt restaurant.
