The Jakarta History Museum, also known as Fatahillah Museum or Batavia Museum, is located in the Old Town (known as Kota) of Jakarta. The building was originally built in 1710 as the city hall of Batavia. The museum was opened in 1974 and showcases the history of Jakarta from the prehistoric era to Indonesia’s Independence in 1945.

This puppet museum houses a large collection of wayang puppets from across Indonesia as well as from other countries. The location of the museum was originally the site of a Dutch church built in 1640 for civilians and Dutch soldiers who lived in Batavia. A small park here displays inscriptions of the names of Dutch officials who were buried in the churchyard.
