Set in the Balinese hillside retreat of Payangan, close to the artistic centre of Ubud, the tranquil and inspirational surroundings and range of indoor and outdoor locations at Alila Ubud make for the most romantic and unique celebrations.
A True Taste of Bali
Beautiful temples abound in Bali, giving you a true flavour of this ‘Island of the Gods’. Here, the temple is the most important institution, reflecting the role of religion in the life of the Balinese. It is a place for communicating with divine spirits through prayer and offerings. Normally peaceful places, temples are transformed during festivals with ornate decorations and become scenes of great activity, bringing together entire communities to engage in colourful ceremonies that involve traditional music and dance performances.
Add a unique flavour to any celebration with dinner at a local temple. The choice of temple will be subject to the ceremonial calendar. We will serve a traditional tasting menu, or a chef-tailored menu personalised for you. This would be a perfect setting though to feast on the Royal Rijsttafel. Rijsttafel, pronounced ‘RYST-tah-fell’, is a Dutch word meaning ‘rice table’ and is dining concept inherited from the Dutch colonial era, adapted by the Dutch from the Indonesian ’nasi padang’. It consists of a large variety of side dishes served with rice, and as well as being impressive to look at, it offers a great way to sample the many flavours and textures of indigenous Indonesian cuisine.
Enjoy too a touch of local culture with the enlivening addition of a traditional Balinese dance performance such as Kecak or Barong, or perhaps a delightful Wayang Kulit (shadow puppet) show.

Fire & Feast
Fun, fiery and full of local flavour… this celebration is about letting your hair down and enjoying your fill of local food and culture. Get back to nature and enjoy the informal atmosphere beneath the stars at the edge of the Ayung Valley. Start the evening off with a refreshing sunset cocktail. We’re more than happy to serve you while you kick back and relax, but if you’d like to mix your own concoction, we provide all the ingredients you need to get creative – arak and vodka infusions, fresh limes, lemongrass, herbs, fruits or infused syrups.
Follow the flicker of candlelight to our Sculpture Garden where the flames and mouth-watering aromas of a spectacular barbecue set-up excite your senses. On the menu is a fantastic spread of tasty, fresh grilled meats and Balinese cuisine, including the live cooking of Babi Guling (suckling pig), one of Bali’s most famous dishes. Stuffed with herbs and spices and roasted slowly over an open fire, it’s heavenly delicious washed down with a chilled beer or glass of wine. Of course, no fire-inspired evening would be complete without a performance of the Kecak Fire Dance, which never fails to mesmerise its audience.
