Season of Giving
December 2008

This season of goodwill, Alila Cha-Am is promoting its commitment to Responsible Tourism. We have adopted the local Bang Khet School with a host of ongoing activities involving both staff and guests. Proceeds from our current Splurge Package will go towards buying much needed equipment for the school. A “Wishmas Tree” has also been set up in the hotel for children to hang their requests for the coming year, giving guests a chance to spread the Christmas cheer. Even our corporate client, Holcim, donated a generous amount of cash plus six laptops to the school during their October conference, and it has expressed its wish to continue supporting this worthy cause in collaboration with Alila Cha-Am.

Porsche Club annual getaway
November 2008

This November saw another line-up of flashy wheels parked at Alila Cha-Am, when K. Tatcha, President of Thailand’s Porsche Club chose us as the destination for the club’s annual getaway. When asked why he chose Alila Cha-Am, K. Tatcha replied, ‘The club members fell in love with the design and concept of Alila Cha-Am. Besides this, we are supporters of Discovery Thailand 2008-2009, which promotes travel within Thailand. Naturally, we chose a hotel which is both designed and owned by Thais.’

Loy Krathong Activities
November 2008

The romantic festival of Loy Krathong was celebrated this November at Alila Cha-Am with a krathong-making competition, which pitched the various departments of the hotel and the local Bang Ket School against each other. Traditionally made from bamboo, intricately folded pieces of banana leaf, and decorated with candles, incense sticks and flowers, the teams went all out with their elaborate creations. The school children also helped teach guests the art of making a krathong, which both parties thoroughly enjoyed. A long drum parade led the staff and guests from the lobby to the Active Pool where the fabulous krathongs were floated on display. The happy winners were the F&B department, with the Spa team as the first runner up. The third prize was shared by the Front Office, Kitchen and Bang Ket School.

Sukie’s Bike Rally
November 2008

For Sukie Kamolsukosol Clapp, founder of Bakery Music, and current star/presenter of the popular Dreamchaser TV series, it’s all about taking the road less traveled. His latest endeavor was an exclusive motorcycle tour on the scenic off-road routes from Bangkok to Cha-Am. Undeterred by his recent and near fatal motorbike accident, the tour entitled “The Big Gorilla” went ahead as scheduled with Sukie traveling as a back passenger on one his friend’s bikes.  We were honored to have the tour spend an overnight at Alila Cha-Am, where Sukie and his fun-loving biking friends celebrated his November 1st birthday in style.

Starlight Sam’s Stay
July 2008

This year’s successful bidders at the Australian based Starlight Children’s Foundation fundraiser were Kate Lawson and her son Sam, who enjoyed a two-week stay this July at Alila Cha-Am. Over the past four years Alila has sponsored over 25 similar holiday packages throughout its hotels. In keeping with this tradition, Alila Cha-Am meticulously planned for Sam and Kate’s stay with a customized list of fun-filled activities including day trips to local temples, markets and ofcourse, elephant riding. While in Cha-Am, Sam, who was born with a permanently disabling birth defect, kept a diary of his stay. “The day we left for Thailand I woke up SO excited!!! This was my first holiday overseas,” little Sam wrote.
