01 July 2009 - Heading the pack in sustainable tourism, Alila Hotels and Resorts Head Office in Singapore is now carbon neutral. The carbon neutral certificate, along with The GreenAsia Group’s Carbon Neutral chop, was presented to Mark Edleson, President and CEO of Alila Hotels and Resorts on 27 April 2009.
The certificate was awarded by The GreenAsia Group, a carbon management specialist in Asia. The GreenAsia Group started assessing the company’s electricity consumption, the running of company owned vehicles, business travel, commuting, and waste disposal in October 2008.
After calculating its carbon footprint and offsetting its emissions with a cogeneration project in India, Alila hopes to reduce its total electricity consumption by a further 10% in 2009 through the implementation of staff awareness schemes which includes in-house training.
“Becoming carbon neutral is a natural step in Alila’s longstanding commitment to minimise the environmental impact of our business. It also provides a sustainable business model which can be applied to all of our properties, strengthening Alila’s position as a leader in sustainable tourism,” said Mr. Edleson.
