Sustainable Tourism

Alila’s long-held vision is that commerce, conservation and community can and should be integrated. While creating opportunities for intimate cultural interactions for our guests with the people, cultures and natural beauty of each destination, we are dedicated to being responsible members of our host communities and treading lightly on our environment.
Holistic Environmental Vision

Respect for the environment and local communities is firmly entrenched in Alila’s vision that aims to link natural conservation, community and commerce in one integral cycle. Alila believes that to achieve long-term commercial success, hotel developments must put conservation and community at the forefront. As such, Alila’s green efforts extend beyond the operational aspects of the resorts to create a positive impact on the community – economically, socially and culturally. This includes employing local people who live in the surrounding areas, developing the local workforce through skills training, using products and services from local suppliers, as well as educating our guests on local culture and traditions.

Alila participates in the EarthCheck affiliation and benchmarking

EarthCheck Certification is the world’s leading programme used by the travel and tourism industry to attain environmental sustainability. EC3 Global has certified more organisations than any other, resulting in over 1000 clients in some 60 countries. EarthCheck provides a certification system that responds directly to the major environmental problems facing the planet. The certification must incorporate annual measurement of operational indicators such as energy, emissions, water, waste, community involvement, paper use, cleaning and pesticide use. Gift to Share

Our newest hotels and resorts have embraced Alila’s spirit of giving back to the community through a “Gift-to-Share” programme, pledging to make donations to local causes with every booking. A community effort that encourages guests to give, this programme offers guests a non-pushy, no-obligation option to share the ‘Gift’ by allowing them to choose whichever amount they wish to donate in support of any of the local community endeavours that are initiated or selected by the hotel or resort. Alila Diwa Goa, for example donated INR 3,000 to the Fr. Basilio Andrade Memorial Higher Secondary School in Majorda for every booking of any of its three "Gift to Share" opening specials packages – Invigorate, Indulge and Involve.
